1987 to Present - Founder and President Paul West & Associates

Automobile and Truck Dealer evaluations.

 

In 1979, Mr. West joined the Board of Directors of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) in charge of insurance programs for its several thousand members. That year, Mr. West took over leadership of Nada’s Estate Planning and Life insurance business. In this capacity he performed hundreds of dealer valuations for estate and tax planning purposes.    

 

In 1987, Mr. West joined the financial education program for NADA’s Dealer Candidate Academy which educated dealers on the financial aspects of their operations. During this time, he founded Paul West & Associates which continued its work in financial analysis and planning. For over 30 years, he consulted with dealers and dealer groups on financial issues including valuations.

 

He retired as a NADA consultant in December 2018. During his tenure Mr. West has performed over 2,400 dealership valuations for a wide variety of purposes including buy sell agreements, succession plans, IRS audits, dealership sales and estate taxation.

Prior to joining NADA, Mr. West spent more than three years as general agent of National Life of Vermont and was president of Paul D. West & Associates, a group of insurance, pension, and estate planning companies. His 15 years in the insurance industry started with a sales position at Prudential Life in 1964 and continued with a promotion to sales manager with New York Life in 1966.

 

EDUCATION: 

Mr. West completed his undergraduate degree in business administration at the University of Maryland in 1962. He completed a program, sponsored by New York Life, at the University of Pennsylvania in 1967, where he worked with pensions, buy-sell programs, business statement valuations, and selling businesses.

He received his chartered life underwriter (CLU) designation in 1979.
